Historic Environment Scotland launches public consultation to shape heritage policy, with survey open until 7 December and events planned nationwide.

Historic Environment Scotland has launched a national consultation programme, inviting the Scottish public to share their perspectives on heritage.

The initiative was launched on 26 August at Govan in Glasgow. The consultation includes a public survey running until 7 December, in-person events around Scotland, and online events. Participants will share which places they value and their views on how these should be recognised and looked after.

“I’d love to hear about the places that matter most to you” said Elly McCrone, Director of Heritage.”

“We’d like to understand what you’d like to see protected and how you’d like those places to be looked after so that we can ensure that our heritage continues to enrich our lives for generations to come.”

The programme includes a national survey as the main participation method, in-person events around Scotland, online events exploring factors affecting heritage, and online quizzes. A Youth Heritage Challenge will be launched later this year.

The consultation is open to young people, older people, business owners, volunteers, parents, New Scots, those who love heritage, and those with no strong feelings about heritage but who care about their surroundings. Responses will influence national policy, including the Historic Environment Policy for Scotland.

Registration for events and the survey is available at historicenvironment.scot/talking-about-heritage.
