Ceredigion Museum will temporarily close from 19 May 2025 for structural repairs, with a planned reopening in spring 2026. TIC and café to remain open.
Ceredigion Museum in Aberystwyth will close to the public from 19 May 2025 to allow for essential repair and maintenance work on the Grade II listed building. The temporary closure is intended to ensure the safety of visitors and staff while building contractors carry out the works efficiently. The museum is expected to reopen in spring 2026.
The planned repairs include the installation of a new roof, work on the museum’s suspended ceiling, and the replastering of damaged interior walls.
During the closure, the café, tourist information centre and shop will remain open to the public.
Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Culture, said: “The repairs are vital to securing the future of this special and popular building that houses the Museum in Aberystwyth.
“It is a Grade 2 registered building and the repairs will be carefully carried out so that future generations can enjoy visiting the relics, to attend fantastic events and concerts and prize-winning exhibitions. We very much look forward to the reopening of the Museum so that we can welcome visitors.”
