Rachael North appointed permanent CEO of The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust after serving in an interim capacity.
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has announced the appointment of Rachael North as its CEO.
For the last six months North has served as Interim CEO, having previously been the Director of Museum and Public Programmes.
The charity looks after three former Shakespeare homes; Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Anna Hathaway’s Cottage, and Shakespeare’s New Place.
North has been with the company for five years, and will take up her post immediately.
The newly permanent CEO said: “It’s a genuine privilege to assume the role of permanent CEO for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the museum of Shakespeare based in his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Trust said her role will include expanding the reach and impact of its Designated Museum, library and archive collections and “celebrating the unique cultural contribution of the Shakespeare family homes”.
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Lady Cobham said “There were over 300 applications for this important position, and, like all shortlisted candidates, Rachael went through a rigorous process, overseen by Arts Council England.
“She has over 25 years of experience in the cultural sector, with a track record in devising and implementing innovative visitor experience programmes, leading conservation and community engagement and spearheading capital development.”
Lady Cobham added “I am excited to be working with Rachael at this pivotal moment in time for the Trust in its continued post-pandemic recovery. We share an ambition and a passion for its future aims to reach out to an ever-wider audience locally, nationally and globally.”
